I Get it, Stories Sell! Until They Don't...

Stories are the way to market they say, but it can be tricky trying to use the method without being long winded, or worse yet, thinking you don't have a story to tell.

You see examples of marketers using a struggle story to play on the readers emotions, and get the pity sale. They come across as fake, and fall flat because they don't connect with the reader in an authentic way. So, how do you use stories to sell? They don't have to be long, and emotional, and in fact it is usually better if they are not! You need to think of them as a formula or outline. Lets start with a product you want to sell. Next, think of one way to use it or one result you get from it. Now, add in something of value the viewer gets just by reading the post. It's usually a tip or trick to get the most out of the product. It can also be an unusual way to use it, or general information in a similar field such as beauty.

Lets use a hair care product for an example.

Did you know that if you get a razor cut, you will add texture and make thin hair look fuller? One thing you have to watch out for though, is that razor cuts can contribute to split ends! That is why I love using (hair product) no matter what style tools I use, my hair is always shiny, and never has split ends! Do you have any tips to prevent split ends? Drop them in the comments.

Quick and easy short story with added value and ties in with a product. You have a story, a product, a feature, a benefit, a testimonial, and a helpful tip that positions You as the Authority! With asking them to comment you have an easy win call to action. They might not even realize they have been pitched! Respond to comments and send a DM thanking them for liking or commenting on the post, and ask if they are having issues with their hair, and offer to solve it with your product!
